Thomas L. Buettner, 97, of Delphos, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022, at The Meadows of Delphos surrounded by his wife and family.
He was born June 29, 1924 in Delphos to Donald Claire and Lorene Hortense (Stirn) Buettner, who both preceded him in death. On May 20, 1950 he married Irma E. (Wrasman) Buettner and she survives in Delphos.
He is survived by four sons, Thomas M. (Deb) Buettner of Delphos, James C. (Laura) Buettner of Ft. Jennings, Kevin (Denise) Buettner of Delphos and Keith (Kathy) Buettner of Delphos; two daughters, Deborah (Denny) Siefker and Rene Kleman, both of Columbus Grove; three sisters, Lois Halliwill of California, Dorothy Miller of Delphos and Edna (John) Feathers of Wyoming; two sisters-in-law, Amy Buettner of Lima and Carol Buettner of Delphos; 17 grandchildren, Danielle (Duane) Wieging, Travis (Sarah) Buettner, Brandi (Tommy) Gorman, Duane (Sara) Siefker, Denise (Trent) Miller, Darren (Mallory) Siefker, Cathy (Ken) Willey, Cindy (Jack) Wolfcale, Jim (Jen) Buettner, Dana (Zach Williams) Kleman, Dylan (Brooke) Kleman, Deanna (Blake) Hoffman, Alicia (Micah) Johns, Madelyn (fiancé Michael DuVernois) Buettner, Abby Buettner, Will (fiancé Kayli Dues) Buettner and Wes (fiancé Savanna Forshey) Buettner; and 28 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
He was also preceded in death by sons, Will and Joseph Buettner; newborn twins, Barry and Beth Ann Buettner; son-in-law, Dan Kleman; a granddaughter, Kimberly Buettner; and brothers, Donald, George ‘Jake’, Ellis Gene and Richard Buettner
Tom was an Iron Worker with Union Local 290, Dayton. He had been associated with the union starting on permit in 1953, and was with the union for 61 years. Tom retired from Stedke Construction Company in 1989 having worked there for 28 plus years. He had worked at Graham Trailer in Delphos, owned a Lumber Cutting Corporation, and was a certified welder by trade. Family, friends and neighbors called him frequently when things needed fixing. In his retirement years, he helped his children and grandchildren put up steel buildings & their homes. Tom was a World War II Army Combat Veteran. He was assigned to 7th Army, 42nd Infantry Division, 1st Battalion, 242 Regiment, Company B. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the VFW Post 3035.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery with military honors conducted by Delphos Veterans Council.
Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Parish Foundation. Online condolences may be shared at www.weberfh.net.
