Roger Pothast, 78, of Delphos, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 24, 2023, at The Meadows of Delphos with his family at his side.
He was born April 23, 1945 in Lima to Walter C. Pothast and Henrietta (Pohlman) Pothast. On October 17, 1964 he married Diane (Voigt)Pothast who survives in Delphos.
Roger is survived by a son, James R. (Kristy) Pothast of Tiffin, Ohio; a daughter, Lynn (Kevin) Taylor of Swansea, Illinois; three grandchildren, Alex (Sara) Taylor, Lara Jade Pothast and Aidan James Pothast; a sister, Sharon (Tom) Schroeder of Delphos; brothers-in-law Steve Kemper of Delphos, Norm Siebeneck of Ottoville and Bill (Kathy) Voigt.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Valeta Siebeneck and Judy Kemper.
Roger farmed growing up and early in his marriage to Diane and truly loved it to his last days. He was a 1963 graduate of Delphos St. John’s where he played basketball. He worked at the then Central Soya while in high school. After graduation he worked at the Ford Tractor Sales in Van Wert. He worked for 46 years at Federal Mogul in Van Wert retiring in 2010. He also worked part time at U.S.S. Agri-Chem for ten years. Roger was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Delphos Eagles and a social member of the Delphos V.F.W. He loved to ride motorcycles, and raised and loved his Chihuahuas. His first love was always farming. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Fr. Dennis Walsh, officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2023 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John High School Athletic Department or to the donor’s choice.
