L. Brooks May, 86, of Delphos, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born December 31, 1935, in Lima to the late Gerald N. and Adda M. (Sawmiller) May. On August 28, 1960, he married Jeannine (Herr) May who survives in Delphos.
Brooks is also survived by his daughters, Karla May of Delphos, Kelly (Dave) Noonan of Cincinnati and Karin (Michael) Sodders of Hilliard; sisters-in-law, Ruth May of Lima and Marjorie May of Connecticut; grandchildren, Brooks (Ashley) Noonan, Alex (Dana) Noonan, Summer Noonan, Taylor Sodders and Mallory Sodders; and great-grandchildren, Cade Sodders and Wilkes Noonan.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Kermit C. May and Lyle W. May; and an infant brother, Olan May.
Brooks was an Army Veteran. He retired from Excello/Airfoil Textron after 37 years, where he was a metallurgist when he retired. He was a lifelong farmer and an avid genealogist. He was a member of Immanuel Church and also attended St. Paul’s United Methodist. He was a vocalist, both solo and singing in the choirs. He sang with the Barbershop Chorus, and the Gospel Quartet ‘The Joint Heirs’. Brooks sang at his own wedding and also sang at some of his children’s weddings. He was a bible study teacher and a Prayer Warrior. He was a member of the Elida Young Farmers and past member of the Ohio Young Farmers. Brooks and Jeanie enjoyed winters in Gulf Waters RV Resort in Fort Myers Beach, Florida for many years.
A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Elida with Pastor Randy Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery with graveside military honors conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth Street, Delphos. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the time of the service Saturday at the church.
