John A. Martin, 83, of Delphos, passed away Wednesday morning, August 10, 2022, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.
He was born August 4, 1939, in Delphos to the late Albert H. and Helen (Heising) Martin. On July 1, 1963, he married Rita (Landwehr) Martin who survives in Delphos.
He is also survived by his children, Carol (Randy) Fischbach of Delphos, Tom (Rebecca) Martin of Sidney, Tim (Audrey) Martin of Elida and Mike (Jennifer) Martin of Delphos; brother, Terry (Karen) Martin of Delphos; sisters, Joyce Ellerbrock and Gloria Ellerbrock both of Ottawa; brother-in-law, Don Price of Waldron, Michigan; and 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Price; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Ellerbrock and Norbert Ellerbrock.
John was a member of the Army National Guard for six years. He worked at Middle Point Elevator for 15 years and then went to work for National Seal/Federal Mogul retiring in 2001. He helped with farming for the Friedrichs and Nominas for over 20 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he had volunteered as a greeter. John enjoyed gambling and casino trips for many years. For 28 years they spent a lot of time camping at Huggy Bear. He enjoyed get togethers with friends for card parties. John was very proud of his blue Chevy truck that he owned for over 26 years. He never met a stranger. In retirement he could be found in the mornings at Jim’s for breakfast. Above all John dearly loved and always had time for his kids, grands and great-grands.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Parish Foundation. Online condolences may be shared at www.weberfh.net.
