Jimmy Dean ‘Jim’ Hershey, 70, of Van Wert, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2023, at his home with his loved ones at his side.
He was born February 28, 1953, in Lima to the late Harvey and Hilda (Mathis) Hershey. In October of 1997 he married Lisa Dawn (McCarthy) Hershey who survives in Van Wert.
Jim is also survived by his children, Eric (Niki) Hershey of Ft. Jennings, Craig (Kelly) Hershey of Delphos, Kyla (Brandon) Maunz of Columbus and Eric (Kendra) Swander of Scott; siblings, Janice (Joseph) Geise of Delphos, Betty (Steven) Mays of Elida; William Hershey of Lima and Pauline (Donny) Fowler of Van Wert; and grandchildren, Lola Hershey, Trey Hershey, Malania Hershey, Hudson Miller, Brysen Hershey, Brenden Oleson, Ava Hershey, Brody Hershey, Irie Maunz, Kirsten Swander and Kaleb Swander.
In 1971, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was a Lance Corporal serving until 1977. After returning home he went to work at Fruehauf until it closed. He then went to work at Chrysler in Van Wert and then retired from Hearth and Home in Van Wert. Jim was a member of Lifehouse Church in Van Wert and Eagles Aerie 471, Delphos.
He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and tinkering and woodworking. He was a Buckeye fan and loved traveling and vacationing, especially in Punta Cana. Jim was always smiling and people loved his infectious laugh. Above all else, he was a loving and truly devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was always there at all the kids and grandkids activities and could be heard from the stands.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Friday, March 10 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth Street, Delphos. Military honors conducted by Delphos Veterans Council will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to OSU James Cancer Center or Mercy Health Hospice.
