Jeanette Brickner Obituary

– Jeanette Evelyn Brickner, 92, of Delphos, took her final step on the “Stairway to Heaven” on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Dublin Glenn Memory Care, Dublin, Ohio surrounded by her loving children.

She was born August 3, 1930, in Ottoville, Ohio to Joseph W. and Elenora C. (Miller) Ricker, who both preceded her in death. On April 21, 1956, she married Robert J. Brickner in Ottoville who preceded her in death on November 23, 2012.

Jeanette is survived by two sons, Gary R. Brickner of Dublin and Raymond J. Brickner of North Carolina; two daughters, Carmen M. (Bob) McGough of Columbus and Mary Kay (Ken) Hasenkamp of Dublin; a brother, Omer (Alice) Ricker of Delphos; a sister, Margaret Schimmoeller of Ft. Jennings; sister-in-law, Patricia Ricker of Delphos and five grandchildren, Rebecca and Megan Brickner, and Brian (Michelle), Drew (Hannah) and Heather Hasenkamp, and a multitude of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ambrose (Loretta) Ricker, George Ricker, and Arnold Ricker; two sisters, Adeline (Irvin) Pohlman and Marceil (Virgil) Bellman.

Jeanette was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and volunteered annually at the St. John’s Fall Festival.  Jeanette was a homemaker who also was proficient at many hobbies.   Crocheting was at the top of that list.  She displayed her dexterity and imagination by producing beautiful afghans.   Her creations of the football field at Ohio Stadium were legendary—complete with the Block “O” at the 50-yard line.

Jeanette also cooked a mean homemade potato soup—made extra tasty with her “secret ingredient.”

She was also an avid follower of the CBS Soap Opera, “The Young and the Restless”- “Mom” loved her some Y&R!

Every Sunday on Memorial Day weekend, Jeanette watched her only auto race all year—the Indianapolis 500.   Her favorite moment of that spectacle was right before the race began when the late, great Jim Nabors belted out, “Back Home Again in Indiana.”

Jeanette loved tickling the ivories on the piano also - particularly at Christmas time.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Delphos St. John School Tuition Assistance Fund, Dublin Glenn Memory Care or Zusman Hospice. Online condolences may be shared at www.weberfh.net

The Brickner children would like to extend special THANKS to the compassionate staff at Dublin Glenn Memory Care center in Dublin, Ohio.

Lastly, Jeanette was a fan of the late comic, Joan Rivers.  Jeanette wanted everyone reading this obit to cherish each day—live for the moment.   Jeanette thought a quote she read by Ms. Rivers summed it up best:

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is God’s gift, that’s why they call it the present.”
