Irene Katherine "Kate" Smith

DELPHOS

 Irene Katherine “Kate” Smith, age 82, of Delphos passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022 at her residence in Delphos. She was born December 27, 1939 in Delphos to Med. H. and Irene K. (Auer)Granger and they preceded her in death. On April 4, 1970 she married Tom A. Smith who preceded her in death on October 13, 2021.

Her surviving children are a son Med Ellis Smith, her daughters, Mary Ann Stein and Melissa Harruff all of Delphos. Kate is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 2 great- great grandchildren. She is survived by a brother Donald Granger of California. She was preceded in death by nine siblings.

Kate was a member of Landeck St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She was a homemaker to Tom and her children. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary including the poppy drive, fish fries along with her husband Tom, the Girls State candidates, and was a past president. She enjoyed being involved in multiple church activities, and the Hobby Club of Van Wert. She also loved crocheting, traveling, and making all kinds of baked goods for her family. Kate wrote poetry and was honored by the International Society of Poets.

A funeral mass will be Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Landeck St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 5:00-8:00p.m. with a parish wake service at 7:45 p.m. at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St. Delphos.
