DELPHOS – Irene O. Blockberger, age 89, of Delphos, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021, at VanCrest Rehab, Delphos, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 16, 1932 in Paulding to Ezra and Mamie (Fouts) Rager, who both preceded her in death. On June 21, 1950, she married Rolland H. Blockberger, who preceded her in death March 23, 2002.
Irene is survived by a son, David (Rhonda) Blockberger of Delphos; three daughters, Kay Place, Diane (Rev. Randy) Boratko, and Susan (Lindell) Spears, all of Delphos, 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She is also preceded in death by a great granddaughter Faith Osting, a daughter in law Debra Blockberger, two sisters, Dorothy Cummins, Helen Rager and two brothers Glen Rager, and Ralph Rager.
Irene had worked as an assistant postmaster in Williams County, she was also a care giver. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Irene was active in the First Assembly of God for several years where she was a Sunday School Teacher, member of the choir, and women’s ministries. She was active in support groups for depression. In April 1997, Irene and Rev. David Howell started a support group in Delphos called Above the Moods. She also volunteered for WTLW prayer line for several years.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 211 E. Third St, Delphos, Rev. Kevin Hall and Rev. Rich Rakay officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00pm on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos. Visitation will also be an hour before the service on Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
