Helen I. Kimmett, 91, of Delphos, passed away Monday evening, June 5, 2023 at her son’s home with her family at her side.
She was born February 4, 1932, in Ft. Jennings, to Sylvester and Rose (Johnson) Geise, who both preceded her in death. On June 14, 1952, she married James P. Kimmett, who preceded her in death on January 6, 1990.
Helen is survived by “three and a half dozen kids”, Tess (Bob) Miley, Diane (Tim) Rostorfer, Beth (Dave) Seech, Mark (Carol) Kimmett, Russell Kimmett, James ‘Gig’ (Kathy) Kimmett, Jr., Matt (Brenda) Kimmett, Drew (Cindy) Kimmett and Toby Kimmett; a brother, Leo (Norma) Geise; sister-in-law, Bea Geise; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend Bonnie Merschman.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, John (Polly), Louie and Bob Geise; and a sister, Alice (Hubert) Youngpeter.
Helen was a member of Delphos St. John the Evangelist Parish, the Landeck Catholic Ladies of Columbia and Delphos Senior Citizens. She lived a life of service as a Cub Scout Den Mother, volunteering as a Title One reading and math helper at Franklin Elementary School, Lima Soup Kitchen, Delphos Interfaith Thrift Store and Vancrest Nursing Center. When not volunteering, she could be found buzzing around town in her yellow VW Bug, watching kids, grands and great-grands sporting events, doing the daily crossword puzzle, playing cards and bingo at the Senior Center and rooting on her Cincinnati Reds.
She was our perfect blend of Mother Teresa, Betty White and Dr. Ruth, sharing her tremendous faith, humor and good advice on a daily basis. Her best advice, “Enjoy every day, don’t dwell on the past and don’t buy green bananas.”
A Memorial Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Delphos Shelter House fundraiser or the Delphos Senior Citizens Center.
