DELPHOS – Eugene W. ‘Gene’ Shumaker, age 89, of Delphos, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at The Meadows of Delphos.
He was born April 17, 1934 in Delphos to Richard and Marcella (Becker) Shumaker. On May 21, 1955, he married Dorothy (Wegesin) Shumaker, who survives in Delphos.
Gene is survived by four daughters, Sandra (Ryan) Young of Lima, Linda (Steve) Brisbay of Houston, TX, Patricia (Mike) Edwards of Grover Hill, and Nancy Radic of Denver, CO; two sisters, Ann Stemen of Ft. Jennings, and Norma (Lee) Geise of Delphos; and eight grandchildren, Westin and Shelby Young, Justin and Sara Edwards(fiance’ Jake Keysor), Katelyn, Abby, Andrew, and Jacob Radic.
Along with his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by an infant son, Larry, his son in law Kevin Radic, a brother, Jim (Eloise)Shumaker, and brother in law Dan Stemen.
Gene was the final owner of Shumaker Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning a family run business, retiring after 45 years. He had served his country in the United States Army. Gene was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was also a VFW Post 3035 life member, a member of the American Legion Post #268, and the Delphos Eagles #471. Gene was talented in woodworking, he built their house after being discharged from the Army. Gene and Dorothy had a place at Lake Erie where they loved to fish.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Parish Foundation.
