Doris Buettner Obituary

Doris J. (Robinson) Buettner, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023. She was born in Gomer, OH on September 29, 1939 to David and Ada (Sherrick) Robinson. On September 12, 1959 she married Charlie Buettner who she was married to for 60 years. He preceded her in death in 2019.

Doris was a 1957 graduate of Gomer High School. She was a member of Delphos St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, The Delphos Eagles, a Farm Bureau Board of Trustee member of 20 years and a member of the Allen County election board for 35+ years.

Doris was one of the hardest working women from childhood on the farm until the end. No matter what she was doing, she was dedicated to putting in 110%. She worked as a professional seamstress for over 50 years in Delphos, 20 years at Odenweller Clothing and the last 30 years for Lion Clothing. She worked at the Ohio Power for 1.5 years and worked for 30 years as a Demo Sales representative at a variety of different grocery stores in the Van Wert and Delphos area.

Doris was a loving and devoted wife, mother/grandmother, sister and friend. Her life was a living example of what she loved more than anything, taking care of others and always putting others before herself. This was seen consistently with her family, friends and neighbors. Doris rarely said no to anyone. She was always willing to help, to bake, take meals to the fields, follow behind farm machinery with her hazards on, visit people at the nursing home, call up old friends and talk to check in on them, and of course if you needed something mended, hemmed, or alterations, she would never say no and would always be willing to drop everything and sew even in last minute situations. Doris was an avid sports fan, especially the Delphos St. John’s girls and boys basketball teams. She spent many years attending boys basketball games as a season ticket holder, even after her children had graduated. Over the years she took pride and enjoyment in watching her children and grandchildren’s school events, 4H and fair activities, FFA, dance and baton recitals and competitions, and of course watching her children/grandchildren participate in school and club sporting events.

Doris was always incredibly thoughtful in remembering the birthdays and anniversaries of family and friends by sending cards. Even until her death, no Halloween, Valentines Day, St Patrick’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas was complete without receiving a card and a pack of stickers from Grandma/Great Grandma.

Doris is survived by her three children, Steven C. Buettner (Bonnie) of Ft. Jennings, Julie Chenoweth (Ralph) of Clarksburg OH, and Denise Lucas (Bobby) of Chicago. Doris has 8 grandchildren; Brent Buettner, Emily Buettner, Eric Chenoweth (LeeAnn), Laura Hamman (Will), Eleanor Bartley (Trenton), Emma Lucas, Ainsley Lucas and Sophia Lucas. She has 4 great grandchildren, Drew and Collins Hamman, Elby and Wylee Bartley and Baby Boy Chenoweth, due in October. She is also survived by her two sisters, Edna Haunhorst of Delphos and Irene Lomon of Chicago and sisters-in-law Dorothy Robinson of Ft. Wayne, IN, Marie Fullerton of Lancaster, CA, Kathy (Dr. Tom) Raabe of Findlay, OH and Bonnie Buettner of Delphos. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by, a brother David Robinson and two sisters, Lucille Miller and Ethel Spence and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
