Cody Nichols, Sr. Obituary

Cody D. Nichols, Sr. (92) of Delphos, Ohio passed away May 9, 2023.

Cody married his loving wife Mary (Maas) Nichols and would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on September 26, 2023.

Cody was a proud navy veteran (1947-52) and General Foreman at the Lima Engine Plant. Following his retirement, Cody was able to fully direct his passion towards building their beautiful home in his beloved woods where many fond memories were shared by Cody and his family.

Throughout the years, Cody and Mary created a welcoming home with beautiful gardens, lush woods and space where Cody enjoyed raising peacocks, exotic pheasants and quail. Cody loved spending time with his family and friends as they gathered for fun fishing derbies and ice skating on the pond, birthday and holiday celebrations and of course, the famous blue Ford tractor bucket rides that will be remembered by those lucky enough to have one.

As many know, Cody was not able to sit still for long; from building bonfires, grilling for family cookouts and even hanging swings from the large trees for his grandchildren. To go along with his insatiable sweet tooth, Cody loved making his famous peanut brittle and toffee to share during the holidays while snacking on his favorite pecan turtles.

Cody was born, October 22, 1930 to Eileen (Strayer) Nichols and Francis Nichols, both deceased.

Cody has three children. His son, Cody, Jr. (Judy) Nichols; daughters, Roxanne (deceased) (Dave) Rabe and Kimberly (John) Blankerts.

Cody greatly cherished his grandchildren Jason Rabe (deceased), Michelle (Todd Parker) Rabe, Cody III (Tiffany) Nichols, Kate Blankerts and Kelsey Blankerts.

His great-grandchildren are Devin Rabe, Nathan and Ashlyn Mosier, Skylar Parker, Chloe and Ava Nichols.

Step-grandchildren, Justen (Anna) Briggs, Kristan (Doug) Dorner. Step-great-grandchildren Konnor and Jasmine Briggs, Austin, Ashley (deceased), Evan and Emily Parker and step-great-granddaughter Lyn’Nova Parker.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to all that Cody met along the way. Especially his friend Jim Goergens who built our family home many years ago.

A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St. Delphos, Ohio 45833. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to American Heart Association.

Not just beautiful,
though- the stars are like
the trees in the forest,
alive and breathing.
And they’re watching me.
