Carol M. Hellman, 88, of Ft. Jennings passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s with her loving family at her side.
She was born March 3, 1934 to the late Tom and Alice (Gulker) Wiley. On November 28, 1953, she married her sweetie, George J. Hellman, who survives in Ft. Jennings.
Carol is also survived by her children, Glenn (Ruth) Hellman of Ft. Jennings, Renee (Terry) Peters of Toledo and Lisa (Steve) Recker of Delphos; a brother, Tom (Terry) Wiley; grandchildren, Stephanie (Daniel) Moravek, Greg (Beth) Hellman, Steve (MacKenzie) Hellman, Jill (Joel) Denton, Keith (Jodie) Recker, Amanda (Andy) Knueve, Blake Peters (Katie Bowman), Braden Peters, Alex (Robyn) Recker, Brent (Sathika) Peters; five step-grandchildren and their families; and 13 great-grandkids.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert M. Hellman; and a sister, Tonja (Don) Moening.
Carol was a 1952 graduate of Delphos St. John’s and a graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in education. She taught at Kalida Elementary for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings Legion Auxiliary, Delphos Eagles and Delphos Country Club. Carol enjoyed all of her grandkids’ activities, reading, crossword puzzles, camping, playing cards, shopping and enjoying lunch at Jim’s.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where an American Legion Ladies Auxiliary service will begin at 4:00 p.m. A Parish Wake Service will begin at 7:45 p.m.. Visitation will also be for one hour before the time of the service on Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
