Alexander Wehri Obituary

DELPHOS – Alexander Charles Wehri died in his apartment in Los Angeles, CA on April 29, 2022. He was 33 years old.

Born on the frigid winter day of February 3, 1989 during a family ski trip to northern Michigan, Alex - as he was lovingly known - made his mark on the world from the start. Though he eventually towered the world at 6 feet 4 inches, he started life as a skinny premature baby born by emergency C-section at a small hospital. But Alex was strong, and so were his parents. They traveled home during a near-blizzard snowstorm and were welcomed in awe by his three older siblings who were being cared for by his extended family and friends.

Alex was a precocious kid, full of wonder and was constantly on the go. He had big ideas, and a big personality, and his big dimpled smile could melt the heart of any passerby. His blonde hair was almost white, and the sparkle in his bright blue eyes was infectious. Even until his adulthood, he could look into someone’s eyes and they felt like he could see their soul.

An accomplished musician, Alex found his love of music as a little tyke with the violin. After a few years, however, he wanted to march to the beat of his own drummer, and traded in his violin for a viola, challenging himself to learn something new. Later on while at Delphos St. John’s High School he picked up the guitar, and eventually he formed a band at The Ohio State University with his friends called The Forties. Alex loved to play music, and encouraged those around him to improvise, create, collaborate, and excel. He formed an art and music collective, Rude Crew, whose purpose was to bring people together, give back to the earth and celebrate the power of music. “Conductor Gatsby” was a fearless leader who inspired people all over the world with his engaging energy. He created subsequent bands, RudeCrewJiveTribe and Dance Furiously, performing music that warmed many audiences' hearts. He was a prolific maker of videos and social media posts - ranging from silly sing-song videos with his nephews to serious music endeavors - and his legacy will be remembered there for the ages.

Alex loved to learn and explore. He was an avid reader, especially of books intended to improve oneself or connect to the deeper meaning of life. While his character and curiosity could fill any room and connect to anyone there, he was also pensive and reflective, able to cloister himself with the purpose of true discovery. He always had interesting tidbits to share, a unique perspective, a verve for life that was truly unmatched.

Alex is grieved by his parents, Dr. Carl and Marleen (Schroeder) Wehri, siblings Nicholas Wehri, Joseph Wehri (Nathan Soland), Katherine Takayasu (Jun Takayasu), and Margaret (Maggie) Wehri, nephews William and Oliver Takayasu, and grandmother Margaret (Schnipke) Schroeder. He has many aunts, uncles, and cousins who he cherished and were supportive to him, not to mention a community of friends that live on. He was preceded in death by his loving grandparents Daniel Schroeder and Alphonse and Anna (Kahle) Wehri.

Memorials in Alex’s honor may be made to St. John Parish Foundation as his family wishes to honor his memory with spreading resources to those who seek recovery and solace from hardship.
