Alan A. Goergens, 81, of Delphos, passed away Friday morning, February 24, 2023 at The Meadows of Delphos.
He was born August 23, 1941, in Delphos to the late Anthony and Helen (Brickner) Goergens. On October 27, 1962, he married Catherine A. (Haynes) Goergens who survives in Delphos.
Alan is also survived by his children, Gregory (Janice) Goergens of Kalida, Thomas (Mary) Goergens of Delphos and Jane (Joseph) Selhorst of Kalida; grandchildren, Amber (Tyler) Allen, Nicholas (Katie) Goergens, Sara (Steven) Haman, Chad (Morgan) Goergens, Adam Goergens, Erik (Amy) Selhorst and Lauryn (Cameron) Remlinger; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim Goergens of Elida and Ron (Jane) Goergens of Delphos; and a step-brother, Don (Marilyn) Dunbar.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Dave (Mildred ‘Milly) Goergens and Don Goergens; and a step-mother, Rita Goergens.
Alan was a 1960 graduate of Delphos St. John’s and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He worked at JC Penney Auto Center/Firestone for well over 30 years, finishing his work career at Auto Zone and then Home Depot. After retirement he was a dedicated volunteer at the Delphos Interfaith Thrift Shop where he put in many hours. Alan was a long time American Red Cross blood donor having donated multiple gallons. He was one of the founding members of the Delphos Area Car Club. He enjoyed 20-25 mile bike rides around town and 8 o’clock meetings in the evening around the Liar’s Table at Jim’s. He was a devoted husband, spoiling his wife for 60 years.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday February 27 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or Community Health Professionals.
