Stephen P. Casebolt

Stephen P. ‘Steve’ Casebolt, 63, of Lima, passed away Monday morning, April 17, 2023 at Lost Creek after his nine month battle with brain cancer.

He was born August 15, 1959 in Lima to Lawsie and Sarah (Hopper) Casebolt who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Dick Burnett. On April 28, 1990, he married the love of his life, Laurie (Grothause) Casebolt who survives in Lima.

Steve is also survived by his brothers, Blaine Casebolt of Toledo, Ron (Gloria) Casebolt of Lima, Raleigh (Kyle) Casebolt of Lima and Mike (Kay) Casebolt of Wapak; a sister, Patti (Patrick) Dougherty of Texas; step-siblings, Jeff, Paul, Dave and Becky Burnett; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Laurie’s family, mother-in-law, Dorothy Grothause; in-laws, Annette (Terry) Ralston of Spencerville, Chris (Jane) Rode of Delphos, Genean (Doug) Corwin of Lima, Peggy (Tom) Williams of Delphos and Maria Grothause of Van Wert. Although they never had children, they had many cats and a dog named “Ace”.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Blair Casebolt; father-in-law, Norbert ‘Nub’ Grothause; brother-in-law, Duane Grothause; and a niece, Elise Corwin.

Steve was a 1977 graduate of Bath High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Hawaii from 1977 -1983. He then went to work for St. Francis Hospital in Hawaii from 1983-1987. He lived in Hawaii 10 years before coming home to Lima. He was employed at St. Rita’s from 1987 until his diagnosis. While working at St. Rita’s he received his BSN, MSN and Nurse Practitioner in 2007. After receiving his Nurse Practitioner in 2007 he worked in the St. Rita’s Urgent Care Facilities.

An entire story could be written about Steve and all the things he loved but most of all he loved life, people, animals and everything around him. He always said, if you can give just five minutes of your time to someone to make their day better, it is worth it.

A memorial mass will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father David Ross will be officiating. Live stream of the mass is available at https://nationalwebcasts.com/webcasts/stjohnsdelphos/. Military honors will be conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council following the mass at the church. Following the mass a funeral luncheon will be held at the Delphos Eagles, open to all.
