Shirley A. Martin

Shirley A. Martin, 83, of Elida, went home to the Lord surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday evening, December 5, 2018 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's. Shirley was born February 15, 1935, in Sidney to Wayne and Eileen (Runyan) Bell, who both preceded her in death. On August 1, 1953, she married Aubrey Martin, who survives in Elida. She is also survived by two sons, Chris Martin (Susan Tate) of Columbus, Michael (Betsy) Martin of Anna; a daughter, Michele ‘Mickey' Martin of Lima; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Klopfenstein and Brenda Baker; and a great-granddaughter, Jade Martin. Shirley was a beautician in the Elida area for many years. In 1975 she became a volunteer EMT for the Elida Fire Department. She and her sister, Loretta, having the legacy and the vision of forming the Elida Volunteer EMS, along with many others the Volunteer program began. She was an active member of the Elida Immanuel Church, where she headed up the prayer line. Shirley always put God first, she was praising the Lord to the end, even at the hospital. She loved being a sports mom and grandma, and was a big OSU Buckeye fan. She and Aubrey loved to travel. Being very artistic, Shirley enjoyed painting with oils. She loved her animals and they loved her. She was a very loving wife, mom, and grandma, and a friend to all. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 10 at Elida Immanuel Church, 699 Sunnydale Street, Elida. Rev. Bruce Tumblin will be officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in Pearl Cemetery, Sidney. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church.
