Rita L. Nesbitt, 100, of Delphos, passed away peacefully Friday, February 27, 2026 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.

She was born June 22, 1925 in Delphos to the late Edward M. and Martha (Carder) Wurst. Rita dedicated her life to her home and family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker whose kindness and steady presence touched generations.

She married Herschel R. ‘Herk’ Nesbitt, who preceded her in death on October 5, 1999.

Rita was also preceded in death by her siblings, Tom (Joan) Wurst, Willis (Ruth) Wurst, Rudy (Betty) Wurst, Edward (Vera) Wurst Jr., Edith (Marvin) Arbogast-Ramer, and Frances (Raymond) Freiburger; her son-in-law, Melvin Buettner; and her grandson, Matt Buettner.

She is survived by her two children, Bonnie Buettner of Delphos, and Jeff (Brenda) Nesbitt of Gilbert, Arizona.

Bonnie’s children include, Mark (Connie) Buettner of Elida, Chris (Jeff) Hoehn of Middle Point, and Brian (Angelica) Buettner of Delphos.

Jeff’s children include, Kimberly (Dennis) Roepsch of Belvidere, Illinois, Kelly (Dennis) Kristensen of Denmark, and Jay (Danielle) Nesbitt of Janesville, Wisconsin.

Rita was blessed with 20 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her tremendous pride and joy.

She was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos. Rita was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, VFW Post #3035 Auxiliary, and the Delphos Aerie Eagles #471 Auxiliary. She was previously active with the Delphos Senior Citizens Center and generously volunteered at the Delphos Interfaith Thrift Shop, where she enjoyed serving her community and visiting with friends.

Rita will be remembered for her deep faith, devotion to family, and warm, caring spirit. Her long life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication to those around her.

All of her grandchildren will remember her for making her delicious snickerdoodle cookies and her pumpkin pies every Thanksgiving, and her always willingness to play Old Maid and Trouble.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow, alongside her husband, Herschel, in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos.

Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Parish Foundation or Interfaith Thrift Shop.
