Michael T. Hiett

After a very courageous fight for almost a year, sadly Mike Hiett lost his battle with cancer Saturday, evening, July 18, 2026. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and support staff at the James Cancer Hospital for their unwavering support and compassion for “farmer Mikey”.

Mike, a devoted farmer whose life was defined by hard work, quiet strength, and a deep love for the land. For a lifetime, he found purpose in every sunrise, every season, and every field he tended. Farming was never just his livelihood—it was his calling. For those that knew Mike, they know that perfection was a characteristic that ran deep with Mike, right down to the last field being perfectly manicured, the last stone being placed perfectly in his driveway, or the last dandelion being plucked from the yard. He was a Jennings Township trustee for almost 30 years, and a member of Delphos VFW.

Beyond the fields, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Going for Gator rides with the grandkids was one of his favorite things to do. He was happiest sharing stories, lending a helping hand, and welcoming others with a warm smile. His legacy lives on not only in the crops he grew, but in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the values he passed to future generations.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Mike was born August 1, 1960 in Lima to Thomas R. and Janet V. (Kaverman) Hiett who both preceded him in death. On August 15, 1987 he married Cindy (Hoffman) Hiett who survives in Venedocia.

He is also survived by a son, Jay (Sara) Hiett of Venedocia; daughter, Staci (Scott) Kill of Spencerville; son-in-law, Kyle Berelsman of Spencerville; grandchildren, Halle, Luke and Kendall Kill, Letty and Myles Hiett, and Lane Berelsman. He is also survived by his siblings, Kathy (Ron) Leffel of Spencerville, Joyce (Phil) Kortokrax of Findlay, Sue (Leo) Beining of Landeck, and Kim Hiett (Sam Fittante who is deceased) of Findlay; and in-laws, Jerry and Kathy Hoffman of Elida.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Ann Berelsman who is missed dearly by everyone. The family finds comfort knowing that he and Rachel are now together.

A funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos. Doug Eickholt will be officiating. Burial will follow in Wright Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23; and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared at weberfh.net.
