Joseph E. Burnett, 101, of Delphos, passed away Wednesday morning, July 26, 2017 at Vancrest of Delphos. His Family.... He was born April 9, 1916 to James F. and Clara E. (Sybert) Burnett who both preceded him in death. On October 13, 1937 he married Pearl A. (Merricle) Burnett who passed away on May 18, 1985. He is survived by two sons, John (Teresa) Burnett of Delphos and Joe (Barb) Burnett Jr. of Lake City, Florida; a daughter, Judy (Gerard) Kroeger of Delphos; grandchildren, Ginny (Tim) Hudson of Ft. Myers, Florida, David (Ruth) Burnett of Celina, Matt Burnett of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Sue (Steve) Jettinghoff of Delphos and Mike (Christa) Kroeger of Delphos; step-grandchild, Robbie (Jeff) McVicker of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Michelle Burnett, Amanda (Scott Maas) Burnett, Zach Burnett, Kaiti Myers, Kylla Myers, Ronald Kirk, Melissa Larmark, Tony Cook, Melaina, Maddox and Mason Kroeger; great-great-grandchildren, Damien Maas, Ashley Combs, Cory Combs, Lucas Combs, Kailea Cook and Rheaeigh Cook; one great-great-great-grandchild, Keagen Combs; and a great friend and daily visitor, Betty Schmelzer. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jim Burnett; two brothers, Eddie and Roy Burnett; three sisters, Lula Mae Baughman, Marie Helen Greer and Betty Jane Burnett; a granddaughter-in-law, Chris Burnett; two great-grandchildren, Spencer and Alexandria Jettinghoff; and a step-grandson, Andi Kroeger. His Legacy.... Joe was the owner of Equity Dairy Store in Delphos for 38 years. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was the ship's cook on the USS LSM 354 from 1944-1945. During his service he had docked at 25 ports. Joe was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, RMS Matchbook Club, and a life member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 3035. His Farewell Services.... A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth Street, Delphos. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery with military honors conducted by Delphos Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, July 28 and an hour before the service on Saturday at Weber Funeral Home.
