John 'Jack' Scherger

John 'Jack' Scherger, age 78, passed away peacefully December 14, 2025 at the Willows at Hamburg in Lexington, KY.

Jack was born on May 15, 1947 in Lima, Ohio to the late Louis C. and Rosemary(Metzner) Scherger. He was a proud graduate of Xavier University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1969 and later a Master's degree in Hospital Administration in 1975.

On June 24, 1972 Jack married Charmaine Baker Scherger, and together they shared more than five decades of marriage.

Jack devoted his professional life to healthcare administration, serving with dedication and integrity. He was Hospital Administrator at St. Claire Medical Center, Morehead, KY., St. Rita's Hospital in Lima, OH, and St. Joseph's Hospital in Kokomo, IN, and later served as Executive Director of American Health Network/Kokomo Family Care until his retirement in 2011. Throughout his career, he was known for leadership, professionalism and commitment to quality patient care.

Jack was known for always staying active. For more than 30 years he played racquetball every day during his lunch hour and greatly enjoyed golfing with his friends. He walked the dogs at least three times day and exercised daily, reflecting his discipline and love of movement.

He is survived by his son Matthew Scherger of Lafayette, IN; his daughter Allison O'Donnell (fiance' Jeff Timberlake) of Lexington, KY; and his beloved grandchildren Caroline and Garrett O'Donnell

.He was preceded inn  death by his parents, a sister, Sister Susan (Mary Louise) Scherger, SND, and a sister in law Polly(Weber) Scherger. He is survived by a sister Dr. Mary (Ray) Bonhomme of West Melbourne, FL, brothers Dr. Jim(Carol) Scherger of Sandusky, OH and Bob Scherger of Wapakoneta, OH.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY are in charge of arrangements. Memorial gifts may be made to the donor's choice in memory of Jack.
