NEW BREMEN – John J. Bensman, age 71, of New Bremen, formerly of Delphos, passed away Tuesday December 13, 2022, at Otterbein of St. Marys, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 30, 1951, in Defiance to the late Alfred and Rosemary (Hershey) Bensman. On October 3, 1970, he married Karen L. (Warnecke) Bensman.
John is also survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Bensman of New Bremen; daughters, Gail (Randy) Trentman of New Bremen and Amie (Jason) Huffman of Toledo; a brother, Paul Bensman of Ottawa; sisters, Janet (Jim) Niedecken of Ottoville and Laure (Mike) Swejk of Talmadge; grandchildren, Shonda(Nick) Terrazas, Maya Huffman, Riley Trentman, Connor Huffman, Ava Trentman, Neven Trentman and Landon Huffman; great-grandchildren, Julian Terrazas and Amelia Terrazas.
John loved music having played in bands for several decades. Among the bands he played in were; The Neon Kirks, The Goldenaires, and most recently Heritage. He loved making music with his closest friends, Jim Knebel, Bob Ulm, Denny Grothouse, and Tim Byrne. John was a motorcycle and a car guy having owned over 50 in his lifetime. He was a car salesman for over 40 years, mostly in the Delphos area beginning at Hanshumaker Motors, Delpha Chevy, and Raabe Ford. Most of all John was a wonderful husband, dad, and grandfather. He especially loved attending all of the grandkids sporting activities. It was hard for John to change from Blue Jay blue and gold to New Bremen Crimson and gold but, he did it for his grandkids.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Grand Lake Hospice.
