James Q. 'Jim' McKowen

Ft. Jennings- James Quin “Jim” McKowen age 94, of Ft. Jennings, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025 at The Springs of Lima.

He was born August 2, 1931 in Lima to Raymond McKowan and Olivia (Jettinghoff) McKowen, who both preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by Marjorie (Kennedy) McKowen, his mother who raised him since he was 4 years old. On April 18, 1970 he married Lois Berelsman, who preceded him in death on February 4, 2017.

He is survived by his brother, Michael (Barbara) McKowen of Lima; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Shirley Berelsman and John (Phyllis) VonSosson.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Bob (Betty) McKowen, Dan (Audry) McKowen and Tim (Nancy) McKowen.

Jim was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in Germany. He had taught school in the Ft. Jennings school district. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, a life member of the Delphos K of C Council #1362 which was named after his father Ray. Jim was an avid golfer and card player. He was the heads ground keeper at Delphos Country Club in his retirement and then took care of the grounds for the St. Joseph Church.

A Funeral Mass will begin 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Ron Schock, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites.

Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church prior to mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice. Weber Funeral Home, Delphos, was trusted with the services for Jim.
