DELPHOS
Howard ‘Tom’ Etgen age 88, of Delphos passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 4, 1937 to Mathias Etgen and Mildred (Allen) Etgen. He married April (Mewhorter) Etgen on August 26, 1961, they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary and she survives in Delphos.
He is survived by three sons; Thomas (Denise) Etgen, Jeffrey (Lisa) Etgen and Douglas (Bethany) Etgen and his daughter Jill (Randy) Martin. Tom is also survived by 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and his sister Mary Ann Beining.
He was preceded in death by his siblings; Dr. William (Jess) Etgen, James (Mary Lou) Etgen, Betty (Donald) Bowersock, and his brother-in-law Eugene Beining.
Tom was a 1955 graduate of Delphos St. John’s High School. After graduation he worked at Fischer Plumbing & Heating, then he went to work at R.E. Powell Contracting for 40 years. He lastly worked for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union at the Refinery in Lima. He was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, lifelong member of the Delphos Eagles, he loved to go fishing, especially while vacationing in Canada. He was an avid St. John Blue Jay basketball fan, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Church, burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation for Tom will be held on Tuesday, October 6 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St, Delphos where a parish wake service will begin at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Church Parish Foundation.
