Gary John Maas

Gary John Maas, 61, of Delphos, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022 at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus surrounded by his loving family.

He was born December 14, 1960, in Lima to the late Carl T. and Edna M. (Mohrbach) Maas. On May 10, 1986, he married Donna Jean (Hemker) Maas who survives in Delphos.

Gary is also survived by a son, Bryan (Tiffany) Maas of Delphos; two daughters, Amanda (Kyle) Truman of Middle Point and Stephanie (Joshua Flesher) Maas of Lima; grandchildren Brayden and Raelynn Truman and Sophia Maas; a brother, Carl (Anne) Maas of Delphos; and two sisters, Sue (David) Ricker and Becky (Michael) Beach both of Delphos.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl T. and Edna M. (Mohrbach) Maas; a brother, Larry J. Maas; and in-laws, Carl A. and Dolores M. Hemker.

Gary was a 1979 graduate of St. John’s High School. After working 27 years at I&K, he retired. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Gary was a faithful, prayerful and beautiful servant who always saw the good in everyone. He was very giving of his time and anything he had to help anyone in need. Gary was so talented at giving advise without judgement. He was proud of his volunteer work at Our Daily Bread in Lima, where he had served on the board.

Outdoors is where Gary enjoyed so much of his time as an avid fisherman, hunter, camper and gardener. He was a member of Delphos Sportsman Club. His favorite trips were to the U.P. of Michigan fishing with family. He enjoyed cooking and grilling with sausage being his favorite; his pride and joy was his salsa. Above all Gary loved his family especially his grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. A live stream of the Mass can be viewed at delphosstjohnparish.org.

Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday with a Parish Wake Service at 7:45 p.m.; and 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos.
