Elvera M. Wieging, age 100, of Ft. Jennings, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.
She was born November 14, 1923 in Lancaster to the late Frank and Mary (Cooney) Hohenbrink. On September 9, 1940 she married Edmond C. Wieging, who preceded her in death on January 23, 1990.
Elvera was the proud mother of six daughters, Inez Wieging of Chandler, AZ, Lois Recker (deceased) (Don) Recker of Ft. Jennings, Karen (Phil) Meseroll of Leesburg, FL, Ginger (Steve) Shilling of San Benito, TX, Joy (Tim) Martin of Decatur, MI and Jill (Ron) Osting of Ft. Jennings. Elvera is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren, one bonus great-great-great-grandchild, and four more little ones on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Posy Weber of Delphos; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Hohenbrink of Columbus, OH and Mary Ann Hohenbrink of Merced, CA.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Hohenbrink, Dick Hohenbrink and Mark Hohenbrink; two sisters, Mary Ann Donnely and her twin Elva Sheets.
Elvera was a homemaker, a talented seamstress, and a superb cook. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 88. Elvera was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she often led the rosary and trained mass servers. She was a longtime volunteer for Mercy Health St. Rita’s in the Emergency Department. She was an avid reader first of print and then audio books. She loved playing bridge with many dear friends over the years. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, her pride and joy.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Boys Town Nebraska.
