Elmer J. Hoffman

Elmer J. Hoffman, 89, of Delphos, passed away Tuesday evening, August 2, 2016, at Vancrest Health Care Center surrounded by his loving family. His Family.... He was born March 13, 1927 in Putnam County to Henry J. and Veronica (Siefker) Hoffman, who both preceded him in death. On May 7, 1955 he married Dorothy L. (Bonifas) Hoffman in Landeck. She survives in Delphos. They enjoyed life together for over 61 years. He is also survived by five children, Kathy (Bob) Ulm, Mike (Laura) Hoffman, Bill (Linda) Hoffman, Jim (Diana) Hoffman and Julie (Bob) Fish, all of Delphos. His legacy continues, being survived by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Grandchildren are Eric (Wendy) Ulm, Gina (Corey) Ulm-Moody, Brad, Nathan and Lucas Hoffman, Ashley, Kimberly and Michaela Hoffman and Megan and Josh Fish. Great-grandchildren are Tylynn and Mattisyn Shaner-Ulm and Evan and Ashton Moody. He is also survived by in-laws, Art (Alice) Bonifas, John (Lori) Bonifas, Jane Bonifas, Eileen Bonifas and Joe Landwehr. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Dean Hoffman; father and mother-in-law, Albert P. and Mary Catherine (Picker) Bonifas; siblings, Ted (Dee) Hoffman, Ruth (Hoffman) Koenig, Lillian (Hoffman) Landwehr; and brothers-in-law, Jerome (Ann) Bonifas, Aloysius Bonifas, Richard Bonifas, Albert J. Bonifas and Norbert Bonifas. His Legacy.... Elmer began working at the age of 14 for St. Mary's Food Packing and at age 15 began working for The New Delphos Manufacturing Company, working there until it closed in October 1990 for a total of 49 years. He was an avid volunteer for the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Delphos Canal Commission Museum. He served as a trustee for the Delphos Canal Commission for over 25 years and was a recipient of the Jefferson Award and Canal Angel and Canal Heritage awards for his commitment and dedication to this local organization. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and spending time with his family. Elmer was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. His Farewell Services.... Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 5 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's School or to the Community Health Professionals.
