Dorothy A.(Schwertner) Metzger

DELPHOS – Dorothy Ann (Schwertner) Metzger, age 83, of Delphos, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 26, 1940, in Lima to Clarence and Gertrude (Bauman) Lause and they preceded her in death. Larry Schwertner married Gertrude and adopted Dorothy at six years old and he also precedes her in death. On September 9, 1961, she married Paul J. Metzger, who survives in Delphos.

Dorothy is survived by a son, Tim (Jody) Metzger of Loveland Colorado; two daughters, Annette Youngpeter of Delphos and Sharon (Tony) Closson of Lima; 6 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren and a great granddaughter on the way.

She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Trent Closson and granddaughter, Sara Closson.

Dorothy was retired from Macy’s in Lima after more than 20 years. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic, and the Catholic Daughters of America. She loved to read and travel with Paul. Most of all she dearly loved her family, especially all her grandkids.

A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Rev. Dennis Walsh officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 6:45 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Teacher Endowment Fund.
