DELPHOS – Donald Joseph Heitz, 91, of Delphos, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Westlake, Ohio.

He was born June 14, 1935 in Landeck, Ohio to Albert C. and Agnes (Youngpeter) Heitz. On July 24, 1965 he married Barbara (Droesch/DeBrosse) Heitz who survives in Westlake, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: Melvin Heitz; and granddaughter, Christina (DeBrosse) Hagerty.

Don is survived by his sons: Christopher DeBrosse, Elida, Ohio and Brian (Leanne) Heitz, Avon, Ohio; daughters: Linda (Jeffrey) Kleman, Lima, Ohio, Joyce (Timothy) Sage, Hazelton, PA., June (John) Mack, Lakewood, Ohio, Sharon (Thomas) Seffernick, Rocky River, Ohio; his brother: Richard (Marilyn) Heitz, Landeck, Ohio; his sister-in-law: Catherine Heitz, Landeck, Ohio; his grandchildren: Cara and Jenova DeBrosse, Amy (Kyle) Gratz, Erica (Anthony Hartke) McGough, William McGough, Kateland (Melvin) Vasquez, Alexander Sage, John Mack, Joshua (Amber Shunk) Mack, Connor Mack, Hannah Mack, Justin (Anna) Seffernick, Nathan (Courtney Cush) Seffernick, Anna (Andrew) Burton, Caroline and Anderson Heitz; and his great grandchildren: Tyler, Aiden, and Hailey Gratz, Ciara Vasquez, Jaxen and Elliana Mack, and Griffin Seffernick.

Don served in the Army, and was a member of the Delphos Eagles Aerie #471 and Delphos St. John’s Church. His interests included reading, history, maps, vanilla ice cream, farming, traveling, and both Delphos St. John’s and Cleveland sports. He was very proud of his vintage 1945 Allis-Chalmers Model WC tractor and even drove it in the Mackinac Bridge Tractor Crossing. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, and teaching his children to always do the right thing.

Don and his wife Barb would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this July. They enjoyed spending time together, raising kids, gardening, going to ballgames, and working on the century-old Heitz farm.

A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 7, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday July 6, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society and Future Farmers of America.
