Claude Anthony Bergfeld

Claude Anthony Bergfeld, 91, of Delphos, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.

He was born February 22, 1932 in Delphos to the late Claude Augustus and Helen Caroline (O’Neill) Bergfeld. On May 29, 1954 he married Mary Agnes (Kill) Bergfeld who preceded him in death March 28, 2023.

Claude is survived by three sons, Steven (Chris) Bergfeld of Michigan, Charles (Lisa) Bergfeld of Delphos and Donald (Beth) Bergfeld of Delphos; two daughters, Nancy (Edward) Goedde of Lima and Linda Bergfeld of California; a sister-in-law, Sally Bergfeld; grandchildren, Michael (Hope) Bergfeld, Audrey (Phil) Lahti, Bart Bergfeld, Tyler (Tiffany) Bergfeld, Jordan (Makenzie) Bergfeld, Heather Bergfeld, Ryan (Stephanie) Reindel and Scott (Lauren) Goedde; and great-grandchildren, Luca, Aria and Gabriel Bergfeld, Grady Bergfeld, Benjamin Bergfeld, Mia and Izzy Reindel, Emmy Jayne, Parker and Carson Goedde.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Redding, Evelyn Mullins, Caroline Gallmeier and Grace Bergfeld; and brothers, Patrick Bergfeld and Eugene Bergfeld.

Claude retired from Delphos St. John’s church and school, where he was the first business manager. He had served for three years in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Delphos Knights of Columbus Council 1362.  He was Charter Treasurer of Delphos Optimist Club and Treasurer of the Serra Club of Lima.  He was a former member of BPOE of Lima.  He was Trustee for St. John Parish Foundation for over 20 years.

A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church followed by graveside military rites by Delphos Veterans Council at the church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos. A K of C Rosary will be held Thursday at 6:45 p.m. followed by a Parish Wake Service.
