Catherine M. "Cathy" Hammons

August 1, 1930 — February 11, 2023

Catherine M. ‘Cathy’ Hammons, 92, of Delphos, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s.

She was born August 1, 1930, in Kalida to Albert and Mary (Buss) Kramer. On June 20, 1953, she married Robert W. ‘Bob’ Hammons, who preceded her in death on September 19, 1996.

Cathy is survived by two sons, Robert D. ‘Bob’ (Bernice) Hammons and Mark W. (Laura) Hammons, both of Delphos; a daughter, Karen S. Youngpeter of Delphos; seven grandchildren; Kristin (Adam) Sawmiller, Brian Hammons, Roman (Shifawn) Youngpeter, Rachel (Kyle) Osting, Andrea (Ryan) Hamlin, Katrina (Adam) Smith and Jessica (Brandon) Schroeder; great-grandchildren, Hayleigh Bacome, Carsten Youngpeter, Brexley Youngpeter, Knox Osting, Gillian Osting, Emelia Hamlin, Olivia Hamlin, Brianna Hamlin, Levi Smith, Ashton Smith, Isabella Schroeder, Brooklynn Schroeder, Kenzie Sawmiller and Gavin Sawmiller; a brother, Alfred (Wilma) Kramer of Ft. Jennings; and two sisters, Helen Niese of Lima and Teresa Murphy of Ft. Wayne.

Along with her parents, and husband, Cathy is also preceded in death by a son, Kevin Hammons; three great grandchildren; Logan Michael, Grace Marie and Everett James Smith; her sister, Mary Ann (Vic) Koester; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Niese and Charles Murphy.

Cathy graduated from Kalida High School. She was retired from Huffy and KP Industries. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church; VFW Auxiliary 3035 serving on their color guard and was a past president; the Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 40 where she was past president and the former Catholic Daughters of America; F.O.E.#471 Delphos Auxiliary; and a volunteer with the St. Rita’s Medical Center Auxiliary. In 2012 she was named the Delphos Herald Tri-County Women of the Year. She loved her flowers and gardening, her neighbors called her the queen of Craig Ave. She dearly loved her family and especially spending time playing games with her grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Catholic Ladies of Columbia service will begin at 4:00 p.m., a Parish Wake Service will begin at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Parish Foundation or the Catholic Ladies of Columbia.  Online condolences may be shared at www.weberfh.net.
