Paul Hemker Obituary

Paul Joseph Hemker, 92, of Delphos, passed away Tuesday morning, November 12, 2019 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's. He was born October 1, 1927 in Delphos to the late Joseph and Agnes (Wrasman) Hemker. On June 23, 1951 he married Rita Regina (Horstman) Hemker, who preceded him in death on November 7, 2010. Paul is survived by a son, Kenneth (Anne) Hemker of Ft. Jennings; two daughters, Alice (Daniel) Stechschulte of Ft. Jennings and Laurita (Gerald) Cross of Delphos; three brothers, Herman (Vera) Hemker of Coldwater, Michigan, Leo Hemker of North Carolina and Ralph (Yvonne ‘Bonnie') Hemker of Florida; four sisters, Sister Joseleen Hemker, SND of Toledo, Ann Baldauf of Delphos, Clara Alvarado of Van Wert and Ruth Liebrecht of Delphos; ten grandchildren, Bradley (Echo) Cross, Brian (Megan) Cross, Brandon (Nikki) Cross, Amy (Jaron) Lauf, Lance (Billie) Stechschulte, Kyle (Jodi) Stechschulte, Mindy (Dennis) Siebeneck, Dawn (Douglas) Bockrath, Jason (Cici) Hemker and Megan (Dane) Felver Jr.; and twenty great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary (Gilbert) Pohl; a brother, Carl (Dolores) Hemker; sister-in-law, Lydia Hemker; brothers-in-law, Daniel Baldauf, Joseph Alvarado, John Baldauf and Arnold Liebrecht. Paul graduated from Delphos St. John's. He retired in 1990 from Ford Motor Company, where he had been an electrician for 17 years. Paul was a member of the U.A.W. Local 1219. He had been electrician at Fruehauf for 11 years, working there for a total of 18 years. He was a founding member of Delphos Airport. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a Knights of Columbus Council 1362 member for over 73 years, and had volunteered at St. Rita's for over 20 years. Paul and his wife, Rita, had visited all 50 states. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday November 15 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a K of C service will begin at 7:45 p.m., followed by a Parish Wake Service.
