Mary German Obituary

Mary J. German, 84, of Delphos, Ohio passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 12, 2013 at the Kindred Hospital in Lima, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. Her Family...She was born on January 6, 1929, in Delphos, Ohio to the late Otto and Rose (Stauterman) Heitz. She married Virgil German on September 8, 1951. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Ann (Jim) Benfield and Sue Smith, both of Delphos, Ohio; a son, Thomas (Ginny) German of Elida, Ohio; six grandchildren, Ken (Kristine) Keirns of Tampa, Florida, Chad A. (Kendra) German of Graytown, Ohio, Chris (Kristina) Smith of Venedocia, Ohio, Julie (Jim Wagner) Smith of Delphos, Ohio, Jane (Andy Lisk) Keirns of Delphos, Ohio, and Jeff Smith of Delphos, Ohio; four step-grandchildren, Cynthia (Jay) Newcomb of Riverview, Michigan, Renee (Rory) Tarp of Waterford, Michigan, Robert (Christie) Kemper of Kettering, Ohio, and Michelle (Greg) Stiffey of Elida; eight great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Joan (George) Ross of Cincinnati, Ohio and Elizabeth Grace of Coldwater, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Heitz of Wapakoneta, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Donald Dobner of Delphos, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Heitz, and four brothers, Robert, Frank, Father Louis, Ralph Heitz; a sister-in-law, Betty Dobner and brother- in-law, Oris Grace; a step-great-grandchild Brent Benfield and nephew Neal Dobner. Her Legacy...Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She graduated from St. John's High School and attended Bowling Green State University. She worked at Gregg's Department Store in Lima and was a clubhouse manager at Sandy Point Lake in Gomer. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She volunteered for many years at the St. John's "Mom's Room" and the Parish Festival. She was an excellent cook, avid gardener, and seamstress. She enjoyed her time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Her Farewell Services...Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Strayer Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a C.D. of A. service will be held at 7:00 p.m. and a Parish Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's School.
