Irene L. Schwinnen, 88, of Delphos, passed away Wednesday morning, December 12, 2018 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's. She was born December 30, 1929 in Delphos to the late Alphonse and Anna (Hesseling) Schwinnen. She is survived by her siblings, Rita Wannemacher of Delphos, Doris (Ralph ‘Sparky') Brinkman of Ottoville, George (Jane) Schwinnen of Delphos; 15 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Wiechart and Irma Schwinnen; a brother Arthur Schwinnen; brothers-in-law Don Wannemacher, and Jim Wiechart; and a nephew Bob Brinkman. Irene was a 1947 graduate of Delphos St. John's. She had attended the Auer Country School for two years. Irene retired from City Loan and Savings after 40 years of service. After retiring she volunteered many years at St. Rita's Medical Center in same day surgery. She also volunteered at the blood bank, election board, and many years at St. John's festival. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Eagles Aerie 471, and the Canal Museum. Irene was a loving aunt who enjoyed reading, crocheting and most of all traveling. She especially enjoyed her trip to Germany. She kept in touch with many friends she made thru her travels. Irene was the family picture taker, and an avid Blue Jay and Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football fan. She enjoyed her daily breakfast at Jim's. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Equestrian Therapy Program of Cridersville, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
