Obituary

Dorothy A. Fisher, 91, of Delphos, passed away Monday evening, December 27, 2021, at The Meadows of Delphos.

She was born April 6, 1930 in Ft. Jennings to William J. and Mary M. (Webken) German. On September 17, 1949, she married Kenneth W. Fisher who preceded her in death on January 5, 2003.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Joseph C. (Patty) Fisher of Fairfield, Marilyn R. Fisher of Delphos, Anne P. (Carl) Maas of Delphos, Margaret A. (Mike) Hedrick, of Goodyear, AZ, Thomas A. (Julie) Fisher of Delphos and Charles E. (Susan) Fisher of Fairfield; a brother, Harold J. (Joann) German of Rocky River; two sisters, Kay (Daniel) Recker of Ft. Jennings and Carol (Harold) Schimmoller of Centerville; grandchildren, Nickie (Craig) Ellerbrock, Cory (Tim) Werts, Val (Shawn) DeVelvis, Steve Fisher, Jeff (Sarah) Fisher, Eric Hedrick, Scott Hedrick, Stacy Hedrick, Matthew Fisher, Drew Fisher, Rachael Fisher and Craig Fisher; great-grandchildren, Evan Ellerbrock, Cassidy Werts, Lydia Werts, TJ Werts, Leah DeVelvis, Carley DeVelvis, Gabby DeVelvis, Sam DeVelvis, Taylor Fisher, Chloe Fisher and Lindsey Fisher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Mary (Webken) German; husband, Kenneth W. Fisher; a brother, William J. (Dolores) German; and a great-granddaughter, Katie Ellerbrock.

Dorothy retired after 25 years as a teacher in public and parochial schools, the last ten of those years as head of the Religion Department at Delphos St. John’s. As head of the Religion Department, she initiated a high school Liturgy Team, a program to train high school Eucharistic ministers, a “Young Ministers” Sunday Liturgy, an annual peer retreat for grade 8 by high school seniors and wrote a curriculum for senior religion. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the former Mary Manse College and Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry from the University of Dayton. Dorothy was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She had served as first lay Pastoral Associate at St. John the Evangelist for 5 years; she also served as Parish Lector, Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the choir; and for several years she served as a volunteer paraprofessional crisis counselor. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and Toastmasters International. In 2016, Dorothy was inducted into the St. John’s Hall of Fame for her service to St. John's.

A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Teacher’s Endowment Fund or St. John’s High School Religion Department.  Online condolences may be shared at www.weberfh.net.
