Lawrence Luersman Obituary

Lawrence H. ‘Larry' Luersman, 87, of Delphos, passed away Wednesday evening, October 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. His Family.... He was born September 18, 1930 in Delphos to John and Clara (Wrasman) Luersman, who both preceded him in death. On October 28, 1954 he married Veronica (Verhoff) Luersman, who survives in Delphos. He is also survived by two sons, Jerry (Irene) Luersman and Charlie Luersman, both of Delphos; six daughters, Veronica (Steve) Conley, Clara (Ted) Hanf, Rosie (Arnie) Hoersten, Teresa (Fred) Recker and Patty (Gene) Dickman, all of Delphos; and Marilyn (Dave) Kysela of Rocky River, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, Matt, Veronica Jean and Tyler Conley, Brad (Tawny) Hanf, Kristen (Adam) Ricker, Tina (Brian) Laudick, Beth (Dusty) Laudick, Chad and Kyle Luersman, Amanda (Tyler) Bolanz, T.J. and Curtis Hoersten, Adam, Victoria, Scott and Jessica Recker, Eric, Julia and Ryan Dickman and Caroline Kysela; seven great-grandchildren, Jace, Leah and Kiya Laudick, Kaden, Lauren and Easton Laudick, Gemma Ricker, and two on the way; three sisters-in-law, Helen Luersman and Clara Gerker, both of Ottoville, and Joan Verhoff of North Carolina. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph, Herman, Arnold and Edward Luersman, and Mary Ann Noonan. His Legacy.... Larry was a lifelong farmer. He was a 1949 graduate of Delphos St. John High School. He retired in 1992 from Aeroquip, having worked there for 26 years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, assigned to the 224th Infantry Regiment of the 40th Division. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, was on the school council, a cantor and member of the men's choir. Larry was a member of the American Legion Post 268 since 1954, a member of the VFW since 1989 being a past chaplain and served on the graveside rites squad. He took an honor flight in 2015. In 2004 he was appointed as chairman of the Delphos War Memorial Project. Larry was a 69 year member of Knights of Columbus Council 1362, a past Grand Knight, 36 year 4th Degree Knight of the Bishop Neumann Assembly #829 and past Faithful Navigator. He served as past president of the National Farmers Organization of Van Wert County and past national delegate for NFO. Larry and Veronica were 2014 Ohio NFO Members of the Year. He was top grower of tomatoes in Van Wert County two years in a row, 1970 and 1971. Larry joined Autumn Years Choraliers in 1997, singing in nursing homes, bringing grandkids along to sing also. He loved music and loved to dance. He and Veronica were ambassadors for the Delphos-Verl, Germany Friendship Link, visiting in 1992, finding the John Otto Bredeick birth place. Larry was the 2009 Tri-county Man of the Year. He was past treasurer of German Mutual Insurance Agency and served on the Board of Community Oil. His Farewell Services.... Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Dennis Walsh officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery with military honors conducted by Delphos Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday with a K of C Service at 7:45 p.m., followed by a Parish Wake Service; and one hour before the time of service on Tuesday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Parish Foundation, St. Rita's Hospice or to the Delphos Veterans Council Inc.
