Betty H. Birkmeier, 95, a lifelong resident of Delphos, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, July 5, 2018, at The Meadows of Delphos. Betty was born April 30, 1923, in Delphos to Sylvester and Dorothy (Lause) Hotz. On January 4, 1947, she married Paul Birkmeier, who preceded her in death on January 20, 1997. She is survived by four sons, Jeffrey (Cynthia) Birkmeier, Stephen (Avis) Birkmeier, Michael (Christine) Birkmeier, all of Delphos, and Joel (Mary Kelly) Birkmeier of Lima; two daughters, Kristen Birkmeier of Union Hall, VA, and Julie Houghton of St. Paul, MN; a sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Hellkamp of Fairfield, IA; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Hotz of Beverly Hills, FL; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Carl and Betty Hotz; a brother, Robert Hotz; a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and George Rezich; a brother-in-law, William Hellkamp; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Thelma and Roman Beer. Betty received her Master's degree in Medical Social Work from St. Louis University. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was an avid golfer with memberships at both Delphos Country Club and Shawnee Country Club. She was a member of the Les Cheneaux Yacht Club in Cedarville, MI, and a charter member of the Green Thumb Garden Club in Delphos. Betty, and her husband Paul, enjoyed many winters in Naples, FL and summers in the Les Cheneaux Islands area of the U.P. of MI. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Scott Perry officiating. Entombment will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Parish Foundation, 201 N. Pierce Street, Delphos, OH 45833.
